IPO Investor Categories

•      Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB)- Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) are typically large, financial investors, such as mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds, & hedge funds, who have the expertise and resources to evaluate investment opportunities. They are allowed to bid the shares at a lower price than the price offered to retail investors.
•     Non-Institutional Investors (NII) - Non-institutional investors (NIIs), on the other hand, generally consist of individual investors, high net worth individuals (HNIs), or companies that do not meet the financial criteria a be classified as QIBs and allowed to participate in IPOs at the same price as retail investors.

NII category has two subcategories:

•      sNII - "sNII" means "Small Non-Institutional Investor". This sub-category includes investors who have created shares of ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh in IPO.

•      bNII - "bNII" means "large non-institutional investor". This sub-category includes investors who have created shares in shares worth more than ₹10 lakh in Initial Public Offering IPO.

•     Retail Individual Investors (RII) - Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) are individual investors who apply for shares worth up to ₹2 lakh in the IPO to encourage vendor participation in the IPO process.
• Employee (EMP)- The employee (EMP) component of an IPO is reserved for employees, directors and associate employees of the issuing company, and the issuing company and the IPO's chief executive officer determine the share allocation in this category.

• Others- An eligible group of shareholders or other investors with a reserve number of Initial Public Offering IPOs.
