IPO Investor Categories

•  Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB)- Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) are typically large, financially sophisticated investors, such as mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds and hedge funds, with the expertise and resources to evaluate investment opportunities. They are allowed to bid the shares at a lower price than the price offered to retail investors.

• Non-Institutional Investors (NII) - Generally consist of individual investors, high net worth individuals (HNIs), or companies that do not meet the financial criteria a be classified as QIBs.

NII category has two subcategories:

1.  sNII -  "sNII" means "small resident non-institutional investor". This sub-category includes investors who have created shares of ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh in IPO.

2. bNII - "bNII" means "large non-institutional investor". This sub-category includes investors who have created shares worth more than ₹10 lakh in IPO.

• Retail Individual Investors (RII) - Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) are the individual investors who apply for the shares worth up to ₹2 lakh in the IPO to encourage vendor participation in the IPO process.

• Employee (EMP)- The employee (EMP) category in an IPO is reserved for employees, directors and associate employees of the issuing company, and the issuing company and the IPO's chief executive officer determine the allocation of shares in this category.

• Others- An eligible group of shareholders or other investors with a reserved IPO quota.
