IPO Investor Categories
· Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB)- Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) are typically large,
financial investors, such as mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds,
& hedge funds, who are considered to have the expertise and resources to
evaluate investment opportunities various reviews QIBs must comply with certain
financial criteria set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to
participate in the Initial Public Offering “IPO” in. They are allowed to bid on
the shares at a lower price than the price offered to retail investors.
· Non-Institutional
Investors (NII)—Non-institutional investors (NIIs), on the other hand, are usually individual investors, high-net-worth individuals (HNIs), or institutions without financial standards to be closed as QIBs. They are allowed to participate in Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) at the
same price as retail investors.
NII category has two subcategories:
1. sNII -
"sNII" means
"small non-institutional investor". This sub-category includes
investors who have created shares of ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh in Initial
Public Offering IPO.
2. bNII -
"bNII" means
"large non-institutional investor". This sub-category includes
investors who have created shares in shares worth more than ₹10 lakh in Initial
Public Offering IPO.
· Retail Individual Investors (RII) - Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) are individual investors
who apply for shares worth up to ₹22 lakh in the IPO to encourage vendor
participation in the IPO process.
· Employee
(EMP)—The executive (EMP) category in an IPO is reserved for the issuing company's employees, directors, and associate employees. The issuing company and the IPO sponsor determine the share allocation for this group.
· Others- Certain qualified groups of shareholders or other
investors.
