IPO Investor Categories

• Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB)- Qualified institutional buyers “QIBs” are typically large-known investors such as mutual funds, insurance companies, pension funds and hedge funds. These investors have the skills & resources to effectively evaluate investment opportunities. To be eligible to participate in IPOs, QIBs have to meet specific financial criteria set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Unlike retail investors, QIBs can bid for shares at prices below those offered to the general public.

• Non-Institutional Investors (NII) - There are often private investors, high net-worth individuals (HNIs), or companies that do not qualify as qualified consumer institutions “QIBs”. They can participate in IPOs at the same price as retail investors.

NII category has two subcategories:

1. sNII - "sNII" means "Small Non-Institutional Investor". This category includes investors who float shares worth ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh in IPO.

2. bNII - "bNII" means "large non-institutional investor". This category includes investors who bid up shares worth more than ₹10 lakh in IPO.

• Retail Individual Investors (RII) - Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) are individual investors who apply for shares worth up to ₹2 lakh in an Initial Public Offering IPO. This category is designed to encourage everyday people to invest in IPOs.

• Employee (EMP)- In an Initial Public Offering IPO, the management team (EMP) is separated from the employees, directors, and employees of the company issuing the shares. The company and the general manager of the Initial Public Offering IPO determine the number of shares in this tranche.

• Others- A group of qualified investors to whom their reserved shares have been allocated in an IPO.
