What exactly is the Zerodha Smallcase?

A smallcase is a collection of exchange-traded securities (such as stocks and ETFs) arranged in a specific weighting scheme to reflect a specific objective, such as ideas, themes, and strategies. This contains a minimum of two securities and a maximum of fifty securities.

Zerodha Smallcase charges investors two types of fees - a subscription fee and a transaction fee. Its details are given below:

Subscription Fee: When an investor subscribes to a small case, they have to pay Rs. 401 monthly subscription fee to access it. These subscription charges can be different for different creators.

Transaction Fee: Whenever an investor buys or sells a small case, Zerodha charges a transaction fee. This fee is charged on the value of the transaction and is typically a percentage of the transaction value. The transaction fee for buying and selling small cases on Zerodha is 0.25% of the transaction value, subject to a minimum of Rs. 10 and a maximum of Rs. 100.

It is important to note that the transaction fee is charged separately for buying and selling a small case. For example, if an investor buys a small case worth Rs. 10,000, they will be charged a transaction fee of Rs. 25. If they sell the same small case later for Rs. 12,000, they will be charged another transaction fee of Rs. 30 (0.25% of Rs. 12,000).

Conclusion

Zerodha Smallcase charges investors a subscription fee to access a small case and a transaction fee whenever they buy or sell it. The transaction fee is 0.25% of the transaction value, subject to a minimum of Rs. 10 and a maximum of Rs. 100, and is charged separately for buying and selling.
